“Washington DC continues to be an epicenter of green roof and wall project and policy development with the federal and DC governments exercising fantastic leadership,” said Steven Peck, Founder and President of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities.

Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, in partnership with DC Greenworks, the General Services Administration (GSA), the Landscape Architecture Foundation, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Government of the District of Columbia, will be hosting the upcoming Symposium in order to highlight best practices associated with the design, installation, and maintenance of green roofs and walls. The Living Architecture Regional Symposium will focus on how to derive the maximum performance benefits from these technologies as well as explore their enormous potential for creating green jobs. Expert industry speakers will be combined with a one-day trade show featuring the latest green roof and wall products and services.

Green Roof Industry Grows 16.1 per cent in 2009 Despite Economic Downturn

City of Chicago #1 and Washington, DC, #2 in Annual Top Ten Cities List

Toronto, Canada – May 26, 2010 – Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) is pleased to announce the results of its 2010 Industry Survey of its Corporate Members. Despite the severe economic downturn last year, the green roof industry grew by 16.1 per cent over the course of 2009. In the Top Ten Cities List, Chicago led the way for the sixth year in a row, with more than 500,000 square feet installed, followed by Washington, DC, co-host of the June 1 & 2, 2010, Regional Green Roofs & Walls Conference and Training, at 190,000 square feet installed, respectively.

In response to water scarcity in many regions of the United States, Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) assembled a group of member experts under the early leadership of Chris Peck, to begin to look at holistic approaches to conserve, produce, harvest, store and utilize a variety of water sources in order to be able to provide irrigation water for green roofs and walls in arid climates such as Southern California and Nevada.
