Green Roof Rebate -
Targeted Large Retrofit Program

DC has a new Green Roof Rebate Program - designed for existing buildings. Owners can apply for a $7/sq.ft. rebate for retrofits when they incorporate a green roof of at least 4,000 sq. ft. This innovative program provides subsidies of about 50% of average green roof costs providing benefits to property owners, the general public and the environment.

Cost Savings- Improved building and environmental performance;
Reduced operating expenses; Stormwater management
capacity on roof; LEED-EB credits and added market value.
Health and Aesthetics- Improved health and appeal for residents
and tenants; Sound insulation; Improved marketability of the building;
Potential to improve employee productivity.

Community Cost Savings- Increased stormwater retention;
Reduced need to expand regional water infrastructure;
Reduced greenhouse gases and ground level ozone emissions.
Improved Air Quality- Filtration of airborne particulates and
production of oxygen; Temperature regulation of building
and reduction of the Heat Island Effect.
Better Water Management- Stormwater retention, filtration, and temporal
delay of stormwater runoff and reduced volume into local waterways.
Social Benefits- Improved neighborhood aesthetics;
Increased recreation opportunities; Added habitat for wildlife;
Potential for local food production.
